Okay, I've been watching a bunch of entries for the Yellowcard music video contest on ifilm.com. I think the scoring system for the contest is a little weird. Out of 150+ entries, the top five are chosen based on votes from the general public. Then Yellowcard looks over these five videos and chooses one to be their official video for the song "Breathing". I think it may be a little skewed because the band would probably only get to watch the top five videos with the most votes. These may not necessarily be the best videos. They would just be the most popular videos. Think of it as the same as say... using the top 5 movies with the most box office earnings as the Oscar nominees for best picture. Then again, marketing and publicity are part of the business as well.

Anyway, here are my Top Five selections (in no particular order):
  1. Flaviu Mann - Probably the best camera work out of all of them. Cranes/jibs and dollies?
  2. Philip Wang - I liked the plot in this one. It reminds me of Korean music videos. I could relate to it, especially with the ending scene. Haha.
  3. Bracey Smith - This had a creative way of incorporating a storyline unrelated to the lyrics with the song.
  4. Jeremy Lassetter - This one's animated. Pretty creative interpretation of the lyrics.
Okay, make that Top Four instead. Nothing else really stood out. There are are few weird ones, though, like the one with the triathlon training and another one that had a Lego version of Yellowcard and random movie scenes recreated with Lego figures. Anyway, that's enough "research". Time for me to get back to work with my own music videos.
