A New Car:
I got so tired of all the troubles I've gone through with the Civic that I got a new Acura RSX Type-S.
Okay, not really. That's the car my 16 year old nephew just got a little after Christmas. In the words of Napoleon Dynamite: "Lucky..." ^_^
As for my own car, it turns out that the woman who ran into it did have insurance. She just didn't have proof of it during the accident. So I just dropped off my Civic at the body shop earlier today to have the bumper repaired. Her insurance is going to go ahead and pay for it. They're also covering the rental car usage. So I guess I do have a "new" car to drive for a few days. I get a... umm... Kia Optima. Hey, at least it doesn't cost me anything.
Check your credit card statements closely:
So I was checking my checking account statement last night and saw a suspicious transaction. There's a pending charge of $9.95 to Jermarshe in Wausau, WI. Their website shows them to be a web design company selling web logo templates and other things. What is this? I've never seen this before.
A little Google action brought me to a discussion over at www.kilikina.net. There seems to be an intricate credit card scam going on in which the scammers charge a small amount on your card (like $9.95) hoping you wouldn't notice. Not sure how they got my info in the first place, though. It looks like they operate under a number of fake company names and fake websites.
Needless to say, I called my bank to report the transaction. They told me that at this point, the transaction is still a pre-authorization and not an actual charge yet. They wouldn't be able to reverse it until the card is finally charged. I'd have to report back after a couple of days when it is finalized. Well, I guess I'll just sit here and watch as I go through the actual process of being scammed. Haha.
